Tiger Facts:
 
  • There are five sub-species of tiger: Sumatran, Siberian, Bengal, South China, and Indochinese.
    All five subspecies are endangered.

  • Tiger saliva is an antiseptic, and when a tiger licks itself, it helps to heal their wounds.

  • White tigers are very uncommon in the wild, but have been bred especially in zoos.

  • Tiger cubs are blind at birth, their eyesight develops as they grow.

  • Just like fingerprints, no two tigers have the same stripes. This is how they identify each other.

  • A group of tigers is known as a “streak” of tigers.

  • The roar of a tiger can be heard up to 2km away.

  • The tiger is one of only four big cats that can roar. The others are the lion, the leopard, and the jaguar.

  • Tigers eat approximately 6kg of meat a day, but can go without a meal for up to 1 week.

  • A tiger’s peak time of activity is early morning and evening.
